Abstract Wisteria Pod - small wall art by Liz Plummer
There is a wisteria plant which grows up the front of our house and in the winter it is bare, except for lots of seed pods hanging down. I love the simplicity of their spare shape and form.
This design is the second of a series.
There is a central pod shape made from luscious silk velvet which is raised above the rest of the design using trapunto quilting. That shape is echoed like ripples spreading out from an object being dropped into a pool of water. I used my hand dyed cotton fabric and couched novelty yarn around the outside to form a decorative edging.
This wall art is one of nine journal quilts which were made for the Journal Quilt Project. Five of them, including this one, were shown at the Quilt Festival in Houston in November 2005.
