Grandmother's Flower Garden with Vintage Feedsacks

I went through a vintage feedsack frenzy a few years back and my mom asked me to make her a quilt like one my grandma has, but with a pink background instead of white. I don't own a machine, so I started cutting with a lucite template i'd had made, and thousands of one-inch hexagons later, voila, pink GFG. I would never have the patience for English paper piecing, so I just hand-sewed all the y-seams. As a result, each hexagon is more circular and less angular, but that's ok with me. I enjoyed the process of selecting fabrics and sewing the flowers. Now, I am a piecer, not a quilter, so I asked my friend Sue Shore to hand quilt it. You can see her gorgeous work in the "white" photo - she outline quilted each of the 3/4" finished size hexagons, by hand. Well, my mom ended up wanting the original quilt instead, so I kept this one. I don't think I would have chosen pink if I'd known I'd be keeping it, but I still enjoy it!
