Have Suit, Will Swim

November 1st, a box of old swimsuits arrived on my doorstep. At the time my aunt was an aquatic therapist, swimsuits being her "uniform". She had lots of old suits. Her husband boxed them up, sent them to me, and asked me to make a quilt out of them, for a Christmas gift. Talk about making me think out of the box! After lots of suggestions from my quilt group at quilt camp, this is the result. It ended up being a Valentine's Day gift. I machine appliqued the swimsuits that were cut from her suits. I kept the features of the suits true to the originals, ie. the Nike swoosh on the hip or the Speedo logo on the hip. I did the design, the piecing, the machine applique, and the machine quilting. The quilt won a "Faculty Choice" ribbon from the Minnesota Quilters Inc. quilt show in 2002.
