The Edges of My Rag Quilt are Uneven

Q: I am making a rag quilt .......first attempt at a quilt.....and the end of the rows are not coming out even. Is this normal and how do I remedy this?

A: It depends on how much "off" they are.
It is difficult to get everything to be completely even, so I don't worry about it being a little off, especially for a rag quilt where the edges are going to be fringed anyway.
If it's 1/4" off, I'd just let it go and not worry about it. You can either even the edges up by trimming, or just fringe it with the uneven-ness.
If it's more than 1/4" off, I would trim it before I fringe it. But also, I'd look at how the seams line up in the rows. If you are happy with the way they line up, then just trim the edges so they are even, and finish the quilt.

If the seams of the blocks don't line up well, you might want to check back at your seam allowances, and be sure that you are sewing accurately.
Rag quilts generally use a 1/2 inch or 1 inch seam allowance. Because it is so different, sometimes it's easy to not sew it accurately.
To prevent that, I place a piece of masking tape on my sewing machine to help guide the fabric and remind me how big the seam allowance is.
